The moon in waxing gibbous while on a evening walk with my familyThe moon in waxing gibbous while on a evening walk with my family

Hello friends! Today’s journal is a bit about where my mindset has been lately to let me enjoy the small moments at the beginning of summer. As we come to warmer days, I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of romanticizing your own life and how big of a difference it creates in your internal dialogue. By saying “I get to do this” rather than “I have to do this,” every small moments stops being a task and instead turns into an opportunity. As a visual artist, I am very affected by my surrounding environment so by focusing on making the room a little more beautiful or lighting a candle or listening to calming music, I romanticize each small moment and make it a little more enjoyable.

Even when you had a plan for something to go a certain way and your plan has to change paths, seeing the new path as just another opportunity can help you open your mind and heart to accept each moment as it is. Right now, rather than me thinking about how rushed my morning has been and my hungry stomach, I am instead choosing to focus on the beautiful moment I am sitting in with the window open, the sun shining in, and the sound of my long nails clacking on the keyboard. I’m choosing to think about making myself a beautiful and nutritious lunch and making time to go outside on a walk today rather than getting caught in my long list of stresses. It is about a shift in focus from the short comings of everyday life to the opportunities that each moment holds.

This small shift has allowed me to stop and appreciate small moments a bit more in the past couple weeks. Moments that would have flown past me any other time now become the things that make me smile in my everyday life. Wherever you are in your journey, I hope you can stop to smell a flower and appreciate the small moments this week.

Take care till next time,
